Peruvian coffee tasting in Cusco, with a barista

One hour to taste several Peruvian coffee varieties side by side, with a barista who teaches you to smell, slurp and assess acidity, body and balance. No jargon: the idea is that you leave knowing which coffee you like and why.

    Peruvian coffee, in short

Peru grows arabica coffee on the eastern slopes of the Andes, between 1,200 and 2,000 meters, on small family farms. Cusco has its own coffee region in La Convención, a few hours from the city, and Cajamarca, Junín and San Martín share the spotlight.

That altitude and that small scale give clean, sweet coffees with lively acidity, very different from one valley to the next. The tasting compares origins so those differences show up in the cup, not on paper.

We work with seasonal Peruvian beans; what you taste changes with what's at the bar.

    How the tasting goes

    1. The barista introduces the day's coffees and where they come from.
    2. You smell them dry and then freshly wet: that's where the difference shows most.
    3. You slurp following a basic cupping guide (aroma, flavor, body, acidity).
    4. You compare and note which one wins you over; the barista answers whatever you want to ask.
    5. If you'd like something lighter, the "First encounter with Peruvian coffee" is the introductory version: 45 minutes to 1 hour.
